General news

Our Volunteers meet each Thursday morning from 10am to 12noon to help maintain and improve the Park. Everyone is welcome to come along and help. Meet at the Friends Meeting Room in the bowling green near the War Memorial.

We are glad that Towneley Park is being so well used, and is so busy, especially in school holidays and at weekends. We have been delighted to see the public helping to keep the Park tidy by taking their litter home after their picnics, or by placing their drinks bottles etc in the bins provided or picking litter that others have left in the wrong places. Thankyou to those who care. To those who don’t do the above, PLEASE DO!

As the public have used the park, many have expressed their gratitude to the Friends of Towneley Park and the Council workers for the facilities available, and the high standards maintained within the Park. We are proud of our Park and want to keep it that way.

We are glad to say that, once again, Towneley Park has received the GREEN FLAG AWARD. During an visit in May 2023, the Park was assessed, and it was considered to be of a high enough standard to receive this national award. Well done to all.

Our team of Officers include Chair – Judith Glover, Vice Chair – Karen Brennan, Treasurer – Corinne Concah and Secretary – Gill Robinson who were appointed at the AGM in October 2023. At our meetings, reports are received from Burnley Borough Council staff, Sean Kerr and Damian Hartley, as plans for future activities are discussed. FOTP volunteers offer their services for bird feeding, litter picking, gardening, general maintenance of the park, and planning for Park trails and activities. Ribble Rivers Trust activity leaders, Helen Smith and Neil Ashworth have also attended meetings to explain their activities with children in the Park and to ask the Friends to support these activities.
